New Investment at Wyndeham Gait
Perfecting Press and Finishing Equipment for Grimsby.
Wyndeham Gait Limited, Grimsby, has announced details of two major capital expenditure projects for the first half of 2006,
with total investment exceeding £1m.
In April of this year the company will install a new ROLAND 704P four-colour B1-format perfecting press in a two-over-two
configuration. This press will replace the existing ROLAND 702 which will be decomissioned when the new press is up and
running in May.
"While this new press will partly replace the older machine, it will also provide for a considerable increase in our capacity
for the company's traditional two-colour print market," said Dan Dean, Production Director at Wyndeham Gait. "This investment
will enable us to better meet the requirements of both existing clients and new customers."
The new press will run alongside two other ROLAND 702's, with all presses being run over three shifts. The new arrival gives
full compatability between all machined, which will make scheduling work a very straightforward task. The company specialises
in two-colour print production, including bus and train timetables, motor vehicle handbooks, magazine carrier sheets, books
and leaflets.
"It is tremendous to be able to announce this latest investment. It will be a huge boost for print manufacturing at our
Grimsby site, where we have been printing for over 70 years." added Michael Gait, Managing Director at Wyndeham Gait.
In addition to the press, a full Baumann paper handling system will also be installed around an existing 137 Polar guillotine.
The Baumann system includes a pile elevator, automatic jogger, air tables between each element, and the multi-stacker for
downloading cut work. MAN Roland GB provided both the Baumann equipment and the press in a package deal.
This investment in the finishing department has two aims. Firstly, it will increase the output of cut products, and secondly,
the automatin will reduce the risk of health and safety issues involved in the manual handling of large volumes of paper.
"We have conducted a series of tests on the equipment, and on certain types of cutting we have seen a 60% improvement in
productivity," said Dan Dean. "That kind of increase in productivity is significant, and makes the Baumann a very sensible
investment - it will pay for itself in a very short space of time."
Installation of the Baumann equipment has already started, with MAN Roland technicians now on-site
