| Thamesmead, London-based printer Richard Edward today, Tuesday April 4th, placed an order
for fifteen units of ROLAND 700 with MAN Roland GB. The order consists of a 5/5 configuration ten-colour
and a five-colour machine with coater. Order value is in the region of £3.6 million.
Richard Edward was the first printer in the world to install a ROLAND 710 some six years ago.
It made the decision to replace the machine with the very latest model, having looked in-depth at
other products in the market.
The ROLAND 705LV will replace an existing ROLAND 606D, which is over 12 years old.
"Features such as the new air glide delivery and the ultra fast make-ready on the latest model will mean
that we can produce even higher-quality per-fected print and on heavier stocks," said David Moger, Chairman
of Richard Edward. "A major part of our business is the production of playing cards and game cards - currently
65% of our work - and the new presses will allow us to expand even further into this market, whilst also increasing
the amount of general commercial print that we can produce.
"We looked at a wide range of press suppliers before returning to MAN Roland. We believe that they have the
technology that we need to further advance our business. We are also convinced that the latest MAN Roland
service packages will provide us with the right level of support."
Adding further comment, Kevin Scott, Managing Director of Richard Edward, said, "It has been a difficult
market in the last couple of years. We believe that by investing in the right equipment now, Richard Edward can
actually become a more economic business through using more productive machinery. You cannot afford to stand still."
Richard Edward will hope to be in the spotlight again later this week, as it is in the final short list for two awards at
Thursday night's BPIF awards.
Commenting on the order from MAN Roland's perspective, Gary Doman, sheet-fed sales director, said,
"We really didn't have this order pre-planned. It was literally just finalized on the first morning of the show,
which is a very exciting start to what we hope will be a busy week."
