Eight awards for manroland customers

Daily telegraph wins prestigious manroland sponsored ‘National Newspaper of the Year’ at annual Newspaper Awards ceremony


manroland users shone once again at the annual Newspaper Awards, held on 24th May at the London Hilton on Park Lane, with no less than nine of the premier newspaper awards handed out to manroland web press customers. The prestigious National Newspaper of the Year Award, sponsored by manroland GB, went to The Daily Telegraph – printed by manroland customer, Newsprinters (Broxbourne). manroland managing director, Norman Revill was on hand to personally present the award to the Daily Telegraph’s associate editor, Liz Hunt.

Says Andrew Latham, Web Sales manager, manroland: “The overall tone of the evening was upbeat and optimistic, with the awards focused on the many highly innovative ways the newspaper industry is responding to the challenges it faces. The Daily Telegraph did especially well to walk away with the National Newspaper of the Year Award. It is always one of the most hotly contested awards of the year, so I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate Liz Hunt and her team and the whole team at Newsprinters on a job well done.”

Other manroland users to presented with awards through the course of the evening included the Daily Echo in Bournemouth, which won the Regional Newspaper of the Year Award; The Sunday Times for Weekend Newspaper of the Year and Best Use of Colour - Newspapers; the Irish Independent for Coldset Supplement of the Year; Newsprinters (Broxbourne) also collected the Newspaper Printer of the Year Award; with MCN taking away Niche Market Newspaper of the Year and the Express & Echo, Exeter which was joint winner of the Environmental Initiative of the Year Award.

The evening was hosted by TV comedian, Dara O Briain, with Grand National winning jockey, Bob Champion also in attendance to present the prizes in a charity draw supported by the awards sponsors that raised £6,466 for the Bob Champion Cancer Trust.

Concludes Norman Revill, Managing Director, manroland GB: “The 2011 Newspaper Awards have demonstrated yet again the enthusiasm the industry has for producing the highest quality product day in, day out under extremely tight deadlines. Throughout the evening, I was constantly impressed by how positive the general atmosphere was. This is an industry that has thrived on challenges to its role as a leading communications medium for decades and it was clear from all of the entrants and winners of the awards this year, that the determination and drive to succeed that has always defined the newspaper industry continues to be a defining part of its characteristic. I commend all those who entered and won the awards and look forward to a strong, positive next 12 months for the sector.”
