Chesapeake Frankfurt Invests for the Future

ImageLeading packaging producer Chesapeake has announced an order for a man-roland press for its facility near Frankfurt at Neu-Isenberg. The six-colour ROLAND 700 HiPrint press will be supplied in the 3B format, with double coater, and will be fully equipped with UV and IR drying equipment.

Equipped for alcohol free printing from day one, the press features the full range of manroland Quickchange options for fast make-ready on both the printing and coating sections, including APL (Automatic Plate Loading). The high level of automation on this new purchase will help to ensure fast job changeover times, with minimal downtime for make-ready.

The Neu-Isenberg facility is experiencing a strong demand for its services as it continues to make progress in the pharmaceutical and healthcare market. The factory serves multinational pharmaceutical customers as well as niche businesses. The press will increase capacity as well as ensure the quality and service levels to its exacting customer base. The press has the capability to produce some 180 million cartons per year which will help support the operation’s growth plans to further develop its position in the pharmaceutical and healthcare market.

Mike Cheetham, Director – Pharmaceutical and Healthcare Packaging for Chesapeake, said, “Chesapeake is delighted to be able to continue its long-standing working relationship with manroland. This press configuration provides us with a very robust and flexible system that will help us to ensure that we continue to deliver the very best in printed carton products to our customers.”

The purchase of the press for the Neu-Isenberg operation has been supported by the factory's works council, which has welcomed the investment and is delighted with the commitment that has been shown. The press purchase will be followed by other ancillary equipment to be installed over the coming months.

Chesapeake's global healthcare division has recently benefited from significant investment over the past year including new equipment at sites in the UK, Ireland, U.S. and China.
