manroland announces winner of its printing classics campaign

Roland Rekord

manroland GB has confirmed the winner of its year-long Printing Classics campaign to find the oldest working manroland press in the United Kingdom. The winning machine, a 1969 ROLAND Rekord – RZK III, was entered by Glasgow-based Glen Pack where, 41 years on, it is still being used to produce cartons for the packaging company. The Printing Classics winner and their prize - a weekend for two to Barcelona including flights and hotel – was officially announced following an exclusive manroland Ipex 2010 customer event at Warwick Castle on 20th May.

The Printing Classics competition, which was open to users of ROLAND Rekord, Favorit, Parva, Ultra, 800 and 600 presses attracted over two dozen entries from right across the UK. Says Norman Revill, managing director, manroland GB: “This has been a great competition for manroland and it’s been quite inspiring discovering the diverse range of applications some of these old manroland presses are still being used for – from carton production and magazine and report covers to printing on plastics and applying UV finishes.

“I want to say thank you to all those companies who took the time to enter the competition and a huge congratulations to the winner, GlenPack. It’s clear there’s an immense amount of pride out there in these machines and it’s great to see these presses still making money for printers after decades of production. It’s a real credit both to the robustness of manroland’s technology and the innovative approach print companies are taking to ensure they get the most from their investments.”
