Deltor Installs Ten Colour manroland Perfector

ImageDeltor Communications Ltd, Saltash, Cornwall, has announced the installation of a ROLAND 700 HiPrint t”en-colour perfector press with InlineSheeter. The press has been installed in a new 10,000 sq ft extension to the company’s existing premises.

The press – the company’s first move into the long perfector arena, following ten years in the B1 sector – was officially introduced to customers at an open house event that took place in October. Some 120 people attended the event, including the Mayor of Saltash, Derek Holley.

Deltor is already busy on the next stage of its expansion with the installation of a Kodak Nexpress digital printing system, which will allow it to address the demands of the personalised print sector.

The new manroland press is now in full production, covering double-day shifts over a five day week. “A 16-hour day for five days gives us a tremendous capacity,” said Alan Shannon, Managing Director of Deltor Communications. “However, we have the flexibility to be able to expand on those hours if the workload demands it.”

In addition to the enhanced productivity provided by the new machine, the installa-tion has also focused very strongly on environmental issues. The press runs alco-hol free, and inks are pumped into the press on demand – a system that saves waste. The InlineSheeter also helps us to keep waste down to a minimum.

With regard to the selection of the manroland product, Alan Shannon said: “We were impressed with the speed of make-ready on all of the products that we saw, but it was the quality and front-to-back consistency of the manroland machine that really stood out. The manroland press also reached optimum colour consistently quickly, and that is important when you consider the production of saleable sheets.”

The addition of the InlineSheeter device, which cuts reel fed paper into sheets, will give Deltor Communications a potential 15 to 20% cost advantage on substrates over its competitors, believes Finance Director Caroline Shannon. “Pricing in the UK market is very competitive. The additional investment in the InlineSheeter will help to give us an edge over many other B1 printers. We did some detailed calcu-lations with regard to the potential savings, and, in fact, our figures came out ex-actly the same as those quoted by manroland,” confirms Caroline.

ImageThe new factory extension at Deltor Communications nearly doubles the size of the company, taking it up to 23,000 sq ft of floor space. “We needed to expand the business, and the physical size of this latest investment made that a certainty. The expansion has largely been handled by our son Sam, who has worked his way up over ten years, starting as a printer in the business, and now takes the role of a key member of our management team,” adds Alan.

The ROLAND 700 HiPrint machine takes over from an existing Komori five-colour plus coater B1 format press as the main production platform at Deltor. “Putting sheets through a press once rather than twice just makes a lot of sense,” said Alan Shannon. “We could have purchased another straight five colour machine, but I be-lieve that long perfectors have now matured, and this one is certainly right for our type of work.”

The Cornish printer produces a wide range of work for publishers, local Universi-ties, Councils and Local Authorities, including promotional brochures, information leaflets, and the local Plymouth Argyle football match programme.

Commenting on the order on behalf of manroland, Sales Director for Sheetfed products, Gary Doman, said: “The ROLAND 700 HiPrint as a ten-unit perfector is the ideal machine to meet the requirements of Deltor Communications. The addi-tion of the InlineSheeter helps to make this press an even more profitable system for the company, giving them a significant price advantage against printers using pre-cut materials.”

ImageThe ROLAND 700 HiPrint continuously sets standards for innovation, making it the industry benchmark. With the most versatile design on the market it covers every-thing from the thinnest of papers, foils, plastics, and special materials up to thick carton. Totally integrated automation makes short run production simple, and the press can reach speeds of up to 16,000 sheets per hour. The flexibility of the Hi-Print means that it can be configured with a double sized, single sheet turning cyl-inders, and two to twelve units in combination with coating units. The ROLAND 700 HiPrint offers a range of other options such as fully Automatic Plate Loading (APL), InlineSheeter, InlineSorter, InlineFoiler, and quick change options, all of which further enhance the capabilities of the press.
